Thomas Wayne was a gifted surgeon and the heir to the Wayne fortune, as well as Bruce Wayne's father. Dedicated to helping others, he was very well-known and respected throughout Gotham City.
Thomas and his wife Martha were ultimately murdered in Crime Alley by Joe Chill, a desperate mugger. This shook Gotham to its core, and led to years of urban blight. It also inspired Bruce to take up arms against crime as the vigilante known as the Batman.
