Clayface is shapeshifting villain who previously enjoyed a career is an actor. Basil Karlo was a horror film icon who was enraged when he discovered that his most classic movie was to be remade with a new actor in his role. He took on the mask of the film's villain, Clayface, and murdered several of the remake's cast and crew before being apprehended by Batman and Robin.
Later, Karlo stole and injected himself with experimental compounds that turned him into a mass of living clay, allowing him to alter his composition to perfectly mimic anything or anyone he desires.
Notes[]
- In the comic book continuity, there are actually eight named individuals who call themselves Clayface. The Basil Karlo version only receives his abilities after stealing them from the second, third, and fourth Clayfaces. The first person to actually gain shapeshifting powers was Matt Hagen, who appeared in Batman: The Animate Series, which features a continuity similar to that of the Arkham series.
